Red Lips

I recently wore this outfit to go shopping with friends on Chapel St. Initially, I thought that the mesh against the denim would clash, but I was pleasantly surprised. The contrast of the thick denim of the shift dress against the delicate mesh made the dress look less like a sack (which has definitely happened before).

I've been trying out some new lip colours during the last couples weeks, and I think that the classic red lip will be a staple of mine. It's a bold colour that suits everyone and matches nearly every outfit I want to wear. Even though I have a slight complex about my big lips, I'm trying to embrace them and not feel so freaked out about wearing bright colours on my lips.

On a side note: The biggest new years resolution of mine this year is to only buy/wear things that are black, white, grey or blue (denim). This way I will never be caught out with the inevitable "I have nothing to wear, even though I have a full wardrobe" problem that every girl goes through. Hopefully I'll be able to keep this resolution up!

Comfort Over Couture

Melbourne weather is completely unpredictable. One minute it's pouring with rain, the next it's 30 degrees and the sun is blazing, so I was lucky to get these shots in before the wind got too crazy. I'm still finding it hard to look thoughtful/serious in my photos, since all I want to do is smile and laugh at myself while I try to keep a straight face. I'm making steady progress from my last post (where I look homicidal..) but there's definitely room for improvement.

I've been wearing the boyfriend's clothing/man repeller look lately, with my boyfriend jeans and Birkenstocks, but its so comfortable that I honestly can't stop myself wearing duplicates of this outfit again and again. The Arizonas were an impulse buy a couple weeks ago, but instead of feeling buyers remorse, I'm rejoicing in the arch supporting foot saviours. The boyfriend jeans are also a DIY from a while back, and even though it took ages to slowly pick out each fabric fibre, it was so worth it. I'm mentally patting my back for achieving the One Teaspoon baggies look for $4 and not $120.

Essentials

I've been trying to go through a post-exams and post-high school purge of all my unnecessary trinkets and silly childhood possessions,  especially clothing that doesn't suit the kind of person that I'm wanting to become in the future. I'm trying to take a page out of the amazing Ivania Carpio's book, and try to minimise my closet to high quality items that will last for a long time, and will still be relevant in fashion, in years to come. 

COS glass bead necklace, Witchery silk tank, Witchery slit skirt, Zara leather sandals

I'm currently obsessed with this slit skirt that I bought last week from Witchery. Although it feels amazing on the skin - like silk, its actually polyester which makes washing and wearing so much easier. I can see myself wearing this skirt in seasons to come, as it is so versatile, simple and elegant. I just have to make sure I don't re-enact Angelina Jolie's Academy Awards leg-jutting-way-too-far-out-of-skirt mishap.

This COS glass necklace is another love of mine, since it reminds of me of my trip to Europe at the start of the year. I seriously regret not purchasing anything else from COS, as since I've come back, I can't stop looking at the website. Their products are just the type of style I want to be wearing.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some DIY posts up soon and maybe a post on things I've already made in the past. 

Old School

Helmut Lang asymmetric bra, American Apparel denim skirt, Nike Air sneakers

I recently bought these Nike Airs at a market - for a bargain price of only $5, so obviously I was eager to take them out for a spin. I'm completely in love with how effortless they look when worn, and the fact that they are so comfortable is definitely a plus. Even though the Nike Free Runs and Fly Knits etc. are all the fuss at the moment, but I'm still a sucker for the old school Nike Airs. 

I nearly cried with joy when I found this Helmut Lang bra on eBay. I'd nearly given up buying it, since it was completely sold out from other online stores, but luckily the fashion god was looking out for me. Even though it's not the most comfortable bra to wear, it was still 100% worth it since it is so unique and aesthetically pleasing.
